On his way to the final, Afriyie beat five competitors in five rounds in the three-day competition which involved 26 draughts players from the Greater Accra Region.
It presented an opportunity for the interim president of the Greater Accra Draughts Association, Park Kojo Okyere, and his interim executive members, to select a formidable regional draughts nucleus team for them to compete for national and international honours.
In his remarks, the Greater Accra Sports Director, Kwame Amponfi Junior, lauded Mr Okyere and his team for their initiative.
He charged them to encourage the formation of a national draughts association with the view to organising regional competitions to keep players in good shape.
