Government to conduct nationwide assessment on water shortages – Deputy Minister Designate
The Deputy Minister Designate for Works and Housing, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has announced plans for a nationwide exercise to identify areas experiencing water shortages and implement necessary interventions.
"Per my briefing with staff at the Ministry, there are pipeline projects, and there are also those that are ongoing. So, I believe an assessment is already being done," she stated.
Speaking during her vetting before the Appointments Committee, Ms. Tetteh-Agbotui explained that the Minister for Works and Housing intends to conduct a comprehensive national review to identify gaps in water supply and introduce targeted solutions.
"And what my Minister plans to do is to look at a countrywide exercise and to see where we have to fill in the gaps because water is very essential," she added.

She also addressed the challenges posed by illegal mining, which has significantly affected the headstreams of rivers supplying water systems.
Ms. Tetteh-Agbotui noted that resolving the issue requires a multi-sectoral approach, involving the Ministries of Works and Housing, Lands and Forestry, Local Government, and other agencies.
She further revealed that discussions on these plans were already ongoing within the Ministry, as part of efforts to ensure a more reliable water supply across the country.
