
Mawuko Kuadzi is first African to win ARTIOS Award in 40 Years
Ghanaian casting director and CEO of MK Casting, Mawuko Kuadzi, has made history as the first African to win the prestigious Artios Award in 40 years.
Mawuko Kuadzi received the Best Casting for a Commercial award at the 40th Artios Awards in the United States for his work on the NFL Super Bowl commercial, Born to Play.
The Artios Awards, presented annually by the Casting Society of America (CSA), honour excellence in casting across film, television, theater, and commercials.
Mr. Kuadzi’s win highlights the growing recognition of African creatives and sets a new standard for the continent’s film and entertainment industry.

Mawuko Kuadzi, known for discovering and nurturing talent, has played a key role in Ghana’s film industry. His award-winning work for the NFL commercial stood out among top entries from the U.S. and U.K.
This recognition certainly inspires African talent and according to Mawuko, the award will inspire young creatives to push harder despite the surmounting challenges.
“This award belongs to every African creative pushing boundaries. It shows that our stories and talent have a place on the world stage. I’m grateful to the CSA, to my mum, my family, Mr. Danny, the NFL, and the African creative community for their support,” he stated.
Some renowned personalities, including Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, have congratulated Mr Kuadzi, recognising the importance of his achievement for the country's creative industry.
Nana Dwomoh-Doyen Benjamin, Executive Director of the African Chamber of Content Producers, called on the African Union and African leaders to invest in the creative sector. “Mawuko Kuadzi’s win proves the strength of African talent. Our leaders must support creatives who promote Africa globally,” he said. Nana Dwomoh-Doyen urged African governments, including Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, to partner with accomplished creatives like Mr. Kuadzi.
Mr. Roger Quartey, a veteran African filmmaker was equally full of praises for Mr. Kuadzi’s achievement.
“Mawuko’s historic win signals that with proper support, African talent can thrive internationally. This achievement calls for African leaders to invest in the creative arts sector, ensuring that African stories continue to reach and inspire global audiences”, he said.
