#SONA2025: Teachers in rural areas to receive 20% allowance
The government will introduce a 20 per cent allowance for teachers serving in rural areas to encourage them to accept and remain at their posts in underserved communities.
President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement during his State of the Nation Address (#SONA2025) in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
“To motivate teachers and improve education in rural areas, the government will implement a 20 per cent allowance for teachers who accept postings to deprived communities,” he said.
Mr Mahama added that district assemblies would be responsible for monitoring the scheme to ensure teachers remain at their designated posts.
