ISD to lead government’s public communication under new structure - Shamima Muslim
The Information Services Department (ISD) will take on a central role in the government’s communication strategy following the dissolution of the Ministry of Information, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has said.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Ms Muslim explained that the ISD would be strengthened to provide a more direct and responsive link between the government and the public.
“This is a presidency that wants to be hands-on,” she said. “The ISD will be at the centre of government communication, ensuring information is delivered quickly and effectively across the country.”
She clarified that staff from the defunct ministry would not lose their jobs but would be reassigned to other institutions.

According to her, the ISD will receive the necessary resources to handle its expanded responsibilities.
Minister for Government Communication, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, will oversee the new arrangement, working closely with the ISD to ensure a well-coordinated flow of government information.
Ms Muslim noted that the ISD, which has been in existence for nearly 88 years, has the experience and nationwide presence to manage this role effectively.
“The ISD has strong human resources and an extensive network,” she said. “We are building on this foundation to create a more efficient system for sharing government information.”
