Valley View builds clinic on Techiman campus
The Techiman campus of the Valley View University will soon have a clinic. The facility which is under construction will serve the health needs of the university communities and residents living close by.
The first phase of the project comprises the construction of female, male, children and maternity wards and consulting rooms, estimated to cost GH¢700,000. All the wards combined will have a 40-bed capacity and will take one year to complete.
The Vice Chancellor of Valley View University, Professor Daniel Buor, in his speech at the sod-cutting ceremony for the clinic, said the Techiman Campus of the university which was opened with 373 students now has a student population of 3,700. He said by 2016, the Techiman campus of the university would become a semi-autonomous university college having the required infrastructure and amenities in place.
Programmes
Prof Buor said additional courses in academic studies including master’s degree programmes would be introduced at the Techiman Campus of the university.

He commended the Techiman Traditional Council for providing land for its establishment.
Paramount chief
The Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, said the establishment of a campus of the university in Techiman and the introduction of a clinic would go to rapidly transform the area.
He said the traditional council would support the construction of the clinic, which he hoped would one day be upgraded into a hospital.
He added that the council would endeavour to sustain the cordial relations between it and management of the university.
Concern
Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, meanwhile, expressed concern over current unpleasant situations where certain people assumed the title ‘Dr’ when, in fact, they do not merit the claim.
He noted that the tendency had lowered the respect society once had for people with doctor’s degree, which was got through academic achievement or by an act of exemplary leadership.
He called for the practice to be checked in order to weed out quacks and others who were out to deceive the public.
The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Philip Oppong Amponsah, said the assembly would also support the university to grow since its success would impact on the development of the municipality.
