Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly leads clean-up exercise
The Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region yesterday organised a clean-up exercise to rid the municipality of filth and choked gutters.
The exercise was in response to a directive from the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, for all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to hold clean-up exercises on the last Friday of every month.
It took place in seven electoral areas, including Kwashiebu, Darkuman East, Amoanaa, Nyamekye, Darkuman West and Kwashiman.
Assembly members, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments and other officials participated in the exercise and despite the short notice, some residents in the designated areas actively participated in the clean-up, while shops and businesses temporarily closed to support the initiative.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulley, in a brief remark, reminded residents to adhere to sanitation by-laws, warning that those who fail to comply would face consequences.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ms Ocloo, who launched the Regional Sanitation Day at the Madina Zongo Junction yesterday, underscored the need for a collective effort to maintain cleanliness and prevent diseases in the national capital.
The initiative, she explained, aligned with President John Dramani Mahama's reintroduction of the National Sanitation Day, aimed at addressing the country’s sanitation challenges.
