Ex soldier on the run
A retired soldier and an unemployed man who posed as army recruits found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
WO (rtd) Assirifie Adu, now at large and Vincent Baidoo, have been charged with defrauding by false pretences.
Baidoo who pleaded not guilty on the charge of defrauding by false pretences was granted bail in the sum of GH¢8,700 with two sureties by an Accra Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr James Bota.
Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah said Crentsil Abeka, Mariama Alhassan and Rahana Alhassan, all unemployed wanted to join the Ghana Armed Forces.

He said in July 2014, Abeka was introduced to Baidoo by a friend as someone who could help enlist him into the Ghana Armed Forces.
Inspector Yeboah said Baidoo told Abeka that if he could pay GH¢3,500 in cash, he could lead him to Adu who would then facilitate Abeka’s enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.
Based on that assurance, Abeka paid an initial GH¢1,700 to Baidoo who led him to Adu’s house and office respectively where the money was paid.
Baidoo and Adu assured Abeka that they would collect the remaining GH¢1,800 after he’s enlisted.
Chief Inspector Yeboah said in the same month, Baidoo similarily convinced Mariama and Rahana that he could get them enlisted if they pay GH¢4000 and GH¢ 3,500, respectively.
The two also paid the cash to Baidoo around the Dansoman Police Station. After the payment, Baidoo took them to Adu’s house where they were assured of their enlistment in September, 2014.
Mariama and Rahana waited till the recruitment was over but they were not enlisted.
The prosecutor said they called Baidoo who failed to pick his calls.
A report was made to the police, and Baidoo was arrested while Adu escaped.
