Court remands 2 men who planned car robbery

Two men who allegedly planned to rob another man of his saloon car he was selling were Monday remanded in police custody by the Accra Circuit Court.

Alex Boateng and Ebenezer Kwesi Essel have been charged with conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm and ammunition without authority.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, agreed to a request by the prosecution to be given time to amend the charges against them.

Facts

The facts of the case are that on December 17, 2015, the Dansoman Police received information that the two persons and another man now at large were planning to rob a man of a Toyota Camry saloon car he was selling.

The prosecution said Boateng and Essel called the man several times pretending to be interested in buying the car and told him to meet them at the Dansoman Last Stop with the car.

The owner of the car, however, told them he was busy and, therefore, rescheduled the meeting for the next day and on the said day, the police arrested the two men while they were waiting for the car owner and the car.

A search on the suspects revealed a locally manufactured pistol and one live cartridge.

The case was adjourned to March 23, 2016
