Typing competition at Akatsi
A typing competition aimed at exposing pupils in basic schools in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region to practical information technology skills has ended.
In all, pupils from 42 primary and junior high schools took part in the competition which was organised by Bridge IT Education, a non -governmental organisation to teach and develop typing skills among pupils.
Master Bright Nyidevu of the Ami Preparatory School at Akatsi came first in the competition and received GH¢500 cash, a laptop, a set of books and a certificate.
The second position was taken by Master Edem Amekor also of the Ami Preparatory School who won GH¢200, a laptop, a set of books and a certificate while Ruby Dzimabi of the Atsiekpi D/A Primary School took the third prize of GH¢100, a laptop , a set of books and a certificate.

The awards were sponsored by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Indomie, Lawyer Evans Dzikunu Gadeto of Akatsi, the Global Evangelical Church, Shalom Temple of Akatsi in collaboration with the Akatsi South District Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Lawyer Gadeto advised the pupils to know their strengths and weaknesses and work hard to be able to chart a successful career path.
The National Coordinator of Bridge IT Education, Mr Edwin Basil King, said computer literacy was an essential skill needed to face the rapid technological changes in the 21st century.
The Akatsi South District Director of the GES, Mr Joseph Wordui, said the event was aimed at preparing the students and pupils for the world of work and to bridge the gap between rural and urban schools.
