Ghanaian authors urged to write more books in local languages

The Chief Executive Officer of GRANTANGELUS Foundation, Mr Francis Grant, has called on Ghanaian authors to write books in the various local languages so that pupils would read to understand concepts and facts to show their true identity as Ghanaians.

He has stated that most Ghanaian pupils find it difficult to communicate or grasp concepts that are taught and written in their respective languages.

Mr Grant was speaking at a ceremony to assess the drastic decline in pupils performance in both the English language and the Ghanaian languages in Cape Coast, Central Region.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Director of Education, Mr Stephen Richard Amoah, said it was important to encourage pupils to speak and write in their mother tongue to promote effective communication.

The contest was in two sessions, primary and junior high school.

For the primary session, which was done in English language, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School came up first. They were followed closely by Wesley Methodist Girls Basic School with 25 points and Imam Khomeini Islamic School which took the third position.

Nkamfoa St Paul’s School took the first position in the junior high school contest which was organised in Fante.
