Government disbands community mining schemes
The government has disbanded all community mining schemes established by the previous administration, citing their failure to serve the true interests of mining communities.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, announced the decision today, stating that the schemes had not benefited local communities as intended.
He revealed that they would be replaced with Cooperative Mining Schemes, which would ensure greater participation and ownership by local community members.
"In the new system, there will be training regimes for local people to own and mine for their benefit," he stated.

The minister emphasised that the new cooperatives would undergo strict due diligence and regulatory oversight to ensure responsible and sustainable mining practices.
