King Paluta petitions TGMA Board over "Makoma" snub, demands explanation

Ghanaian musician King Paluta has officially petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board, seeking clarification on why his hit song Makoma was overlooked in all the categories for which he filed nominations.

The rapper, who had submitted the song for Most Popular Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, did not receive any nominations.

This omission, he argues, is puzzling given the song’s widespread success and reception among music lovers.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on March 18, King Paluta expressed disappointment, insisting that Makoma met all the necessary criteria for consideration.

He urged the TGMA board to provide an explanation for what he described as an “unpopular decision.”

“We humbly write to your honorable board to demand some explanations in connection with the snub of Makoma by King Paluta, a song we duly submitted for consideration, which we believe remains Ghana’s most popular song released within the year under review, generating the most excitement among music lovers to date,” the petition stated.

The artiste’s team further emphasised that they trust the TGMA board’s competence and expect a “convincing reason” for the decision.

They also assured their readiness to engage in discussions regarding a possible reconsideration of the song in the submitted categories.
