Acapella Festival is here

It is election year, and many are the activities lined up by corporate bodies, individuals, groups and the arts and creative fraternity to educate Ghanaians on the need to shun violence during the upcoming elections, and one such event is the ACAPELLA Festival (ACAFEST).

The first edition of ACAFEST is slated for Saturday, April 23, at Christ the King Hall opposite Flagstaff House.  Dubbed, “Upholding the Peace of Ghana Elections 2016,” the event will feature Acapella groups such as the Psalms, The Manifest, Alabaster Box, Pippers and New Era who will preach peace towards the elections through their songs. 

In addition to that, the night will be spiced up with comedy and poems to thrill patrons while educating them on the elections.

Speaking to Showbiz, Benjamin Opoku, the CEO of Creative Empire, the organisers of ACAFEST, said that apart from promoting peace which is very necessary especially for this election, the event which will be an annual affair is also to establish a strong relationship between Acapella groups in the country.

‘‘We believe the tension mounting with the change of the voters’ register and other pronouncements from political leaders in this country this year need to be addressed. Therefore, as a country, we need to come together to preach peace in every way we can. We choose to use what we have, Acapella, to do that.

“Aside promoting peace, we also want to use the opportunity to establish Acapella music as an art to spread the gospel and to bring together and foster unity among Acapella groups,’’ he said.
