The feeding programme has been in place every Friday since the hotel launched it eight years ago as a part of its corporate social responsibilities.

Rationale

The Head of Sales at the Labadi Beach Hotel, George Ayisi, explained that the company identified Street Academy as the ideal institution to make an impact in due to the school’s mandate of exposing the hidden talents of the less fortunate children living on the street of Accra.

With nutrition as an integral part of the learning process, he said the gesture was to ensure that the children were well fed to be able to learn in the right frame of mind.

“As a business entity, we do not only exist to make profit but we look at how we can make in impact in the society within which we operate hence the gesture.

“And so we want to ensure that even as they go through education, they must be in the right frame of mind to be able to learn what they are being taught,” he said.

Mr Ayisi noted that since introducing the programme, the hotel has not not regretted adding: “Due to the meals, we have realised that the number of children that come to school keeps increasing on Fridays and we believe that it is encouraging to undertake such an exercise”.

Gratitude

For his part, the Founder and Director of Street Academy, Ataa Lartey, expressed gratitude to the hotel for the continuous gesture.

He called on corporate Ghana and other institutions to come on board to support the school’s mandate.
