Why I used Kwadwo Asamoah at left back - Appiah

Ghana Coach Kwasi Appiah Appiah has defended his decision to play Kwadwo Asamoah at the left back position at the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Pundits have questioned the Appiah’s decision to field Asamoah at left back, noting that his absence in midfield restricted the Black Stars attacking options at the World Cup in Brazil.

But in a press conference organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra Wednesday, Appiah stressed that Asamoah was an attacking threat even in his left back role.

He said: “He attacked so well in the left back role and defended so well as well.

“He gives a lot of options in terms of attacking for us. Whenever he goes forward, he is able to give an impact.”

Lauding Asamoah’s performance in that role, Appiah said “it was difficult for strikers to go past him”.

“We had other options in midfield that’s why I decided that Kwadwo should be at left back, and to me he did so well,” he added.
