Kevin-Prince Boateng no longer in my plans - Appiah

Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah, has stated that midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng is no longer in his plans.

At a press conference organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra Wednesday, Appiah said Boateng’s conduct in camp was a threat to unity in the Black Stars camp.

He said although his responsibility as coach was to manage the egos of players, there were times that punitive action had to be taken in the interest of the team.

The coach said he was looking to rebuild the team after a disappointing outing in Brazil and was keen to work with players who will “kill themselves for the country”.

The GFA handed Boateng an indefinite suspension last Thursday for allegedly insulting Coach Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio. The FA said the decision was taken after the Schalke midfielder refused to show remorse.

The former AC Milan midfielder was thrown out alongside team-mate Sulley Muntari ahead of Ghana’s crucial match against Portugal, which the Black Stars eventually lost 2-1 – a development that saw them exit the World Cup in the first round with only one point from a possible nine.

Boateng has, however, denied insulting the coach, insisting to German newspaper, Bild, that he was suspended for criticising the FA for, according to him, the poor conditions at the Black Stars camp
