Presidential aspirant, Prophet Nkansah jailed

A former presidential candidate of the New Vision Party(NVP), Prophet Daniel Nkansah, has been sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to cause unlawful damage.

The court, presided over by Justice Obiri, also fined Prophet Nkansah, who is the founder of the New Vision Pentecostal Church, an amount of GH¢1,800.

The court had last Monday found all the accused persons guilty but had deferred sentencing to May 6, 2015.

Prophet Nkansah’s son, who was the first accused, Daniel Boahene Nkansah Jnr, was also sentenced to a day’s imprisonment and fined GH¢1,200 for conspiracy to commit crime and causing damage.

Sentences

Emmanuel Salami Azumah and Richard Annor Baidoo aka Arnold, two of the accused persons, were both sentenced to 10 years each for conspiracy to rob and robbery.

Six other accused persons, Joseph Tetteh, James Quansah Afful, Otukunor Sackey, Samuel Kweku alias Sammy Tuga were sentenced to two years imprisonment.

Prophet Nkansah, his son, Daniel Boahene Nkansah Jnr and eight others – two of who are currently on the run – were charged with six counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery.  

Delivering his judgement, last Monday, the presiding judge ruled out the intention of robbery in the case of Prophet Nkansah.

He said Prophet Nkansah had only engaged the other accused persons to either go and beat up the complainants or drive them away but not to rob them, adding that “that was not what A2 (Prophet Nkansah) had intended to do.”

He further stated that per a CCTV footage tendered in evidence, Afful and Otukunor were captured picking some items from the office of the complainants and accordingly charged them for robbery.

Background

The accused persons are said to have on the February 1, 2014, robbed one Stephen Ped-Andam of his Dell laptop with charger, cheque books, international driver’s licence, certificates, iPad 32GB, Samsung S4 phone and GH¢55,000.

According to the prosecution,Prophet Nkansah connived with his son and the 10 others to steal a Blackberry Q10 mobile phone and an amount of GH¢500 belonging to one Geshon Essel, while another person, Billy Apeku Ken, also claimed his Samsung mobile phone, Dell laptop and GH¢750 were missing.

The fourth complainant, Isaac Tetteh Korgbey, also accused Prophet Nkansah and the others of the disappearance of his Dell laptop and Sony video camera. One Emmanuel Nana Kwaku Badu also complained of his missing wallet containing GH¢1,000 and I.D. cards.

Prophet Nkansah, his son and the others had all denied the charges.
