In her address, the Brand Building Director (BBD), Unilever Ghana, Nana Yaa Kissi, said the company, since 1995, had envisaged improving oral care of 10 million children by 2020 through its campaign.
Christened “Our brush day and night,” the campaign, she said, had inspired and engaged children as its ambassadors to inject the habit of regular brushing of teeth “that becomes a lifelong behaviour.”
“This leads to not only healthier communities, but happier ones because having a healthy body starts with having a healthy mouth, and brushing twice daily guarantees this”, she explained.
The pupils at the event acted and danced on the theme.
“A brushing diary”
Last February, the company, through its flagship product, Pepsodent, engaged 20 schools from the Greater Accra Region to compete in ”a brushing diary”challenge.
The challenge engaged a total of 10,336 pupils from lower primary and upper primary in a brushing diary where they brushed twice daily.
Commendation
The Ghana Dental Association (GDA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) commended Unilever for its campaign on good oral health for the past 11 years.
The Vice-President of the GDA, Dr Paapa Pupulampu, demonstrated to the audience the appropriate way of brushing the teeth and encouraged them on the need to brush their teeth day and night.
