Teshie residents show apathy to sanitation exercises
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), Mr Seth Badu Tawiah, has expressed worry over the level of apathy shown by shop owners and residents of Teshie during National Sanitation Day exercises.
He said during last Saturday's exercise, for instance, some traders, shop owners and residents looked on unconcerned as staff of the assembly, Zoomlion and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service cleaned open drains and cleared choked gutters.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Mr Tawiah, who expressed disappointment at the low turnout, blamed it on partisan politics within the community, noting that it did not augur well for the development of the municipality.
According to him, before the exercise was held at the end of every month, announcements were made to that effect but residents paid deaf ears to the call to help clean up their areas.

He, therefore, cautioned that henceforth the assembly would lock up stores that opened during the hours of the exercise, as well as prosecute their owners and residents who failed to take part in the exercise.
