
Ashanti Regional Minister sets up committee to revive Kumawood
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a significant step to revitalize the film industry in the region by establishing a committee to identify and address the challenges hindering its growth.
This move aims to boost the industry's development and propose solutions to the obstacles it faces.
In a post on his Facebook page, Dr Amoakohene, wrote: "Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector."
He listed the tasks of the committee such as assessing the current state of the industry and identifying key challenges, developing policies to attract investment and ensure sustainable growth, exploring strategies to promote Ghanaian films both locally and internationally, strengthening film infrastructure by improving production facilities and training opportunities, enhancing film festivals and cultural showcases to celebrate Ghanaian storytelling and creativity, and fostering collaboration between stakeholders to create more opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and creatives.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, is urging the newly formed committee to drive the growth of Kumawood with dedication, commitment, and unity.
He believes that by working together, they can elevate the entire creative industry to new heights and build a globally competitive film industry that showcases the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana.
“I urged the committee members to carry out their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of unity to ensure that Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights. Together, we will build a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana!,” he wrote.
In a response under the said post, filmmaker and former Public Relations Officer(PRO) of Film Producers Association of Ghana(FIPAG), Ola Michael said he sincerely hope the committee will bring about meaningful change, as industry players were already aware of the challenges and solutions needed to revitalise the Kumawood industry.
He wrote, “Good to hear from you Hon Minister. I pray something useful comes out of this committee cus we know the problems already and we know the solutions. When I say we, I mean we in the creative and cultural industries, specifically, the kumawood as well.
Reason some of the campaign promises were made, mostly targeting the very reason this committee is being set up.
We await the outcome. Kudos honourable”.
