Muslim women undertake clean-up

Members of the Annisa Foundation, an association of professional Muslim women, have embarked on a clean-up at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque area in Accra.

The women swept and collected rubbish in the area and around the mosque.

The Zoomlion Waste Management Company was on hand to collect the heaps of rubbish to the rubbish dump site.

The women and others around, including traders and beggars, received education on the importance of environmental cleanliness and good personal hygiene.

The President of the foundation, Hajia Rukayatu Iddriss, noted that Islam admonished Muslims to clean their environment and keep their bodies clean at all times.

Hajia Iddriss referred to verses in the Holy Qur’an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and stated that cleanliness brought one closer to Allah.

She said maintaining a clean environment and good personal hygiene saved people from diseases.

She explained that the clean-up exercise was an attempt to encourage other groups and individuals to be mindful of the environment and keep it clean at all times.

Hajia Rukayatu asked that personal hygiene be strictly maintained since that was the surest way to maintain good health.
