ECG to release more power for industries
Following the improvement in electricity supply, the Ministry of Power has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release additional 30 megawatts of power to industries, with effect from last Friday.
The 100 megawatts being shed currently for industry has subsequently been reduced to 70 megawatts.
The increase, according to the Power Minister, Dr Kwabena Donkor, could be attributed to improvement in electricity generation and distribution in the country.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Power and signed by its Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kweku Sersah-Johnson, directed the Load Management Committee to act immediately.
The statement further said the ministry was monitoring the development in the power sector and would announce further changes when necessary.
On September 1, 2015, the minister issued a similar directive to the Load Management Committee to reduce the 130 megawatts being shed for industry to 100 megawatts.
