Rainstorm destroys Islamic Girls' SHS
A rainstorm last month destroyed a number of classrooms at the Islamic Girls’ Senior High School at Suhum leaving students and teachers stranded without classrooms.
Twelve out of the 16 classrooms were destroyed and a portion of the girls’ dormitory also developed severe cracks after the storm.
The affected classrooms had their roofs ripped off while portions of the concrete pillars supporting the building also collapsed.
The storm swept through the school on December 13 last year when the Form Three students were writing their elective Mathematics terminal paper. Fortunately, however, the only student who sustained minor injuries has recovered.

When a team from the Junior Graphic visited the school, workers were seen parking the roofing sheets which were blown into nearby bushes during the storm while some of the students who had reported for school were seen sitting under trees.
According to the Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr Ebenezer Tawiah, the school would be using the dining hall (under construction) as classrooms for the students in the interim and “some of them too will have their lessons under the trees in the school.
Mr Tawiah said some food items like gari, rice, sugar, etc. in the storeroom got soaked and had to be thrown away.
“So far, the only company which has come to the aid of the school is the Chocho Industries. The Chief Executive Officer of the company presented the school with GH¢1,500 and promised to give us more items,” Mr Tawiah said.
Mr Tawiah appealed to the general public to come to the aid of the school.
