Where to go.... Paapa plays at Alliance Francaise
‘Fresh urban sound’ is how the music of singer, songwriter, rapper, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Paapa Mensa, has been described in various quarters and he will be at the Alliance Française in Accra tonight, August 3, to prove why he is so highly rated.
Paapa balances his career as a musician with his schoolwork at Reed College in Oregon, United States. His debut album, Solar, came out in July 2011. His current collection of songs is titled Songs For Kukua.
Paapa says he grew up listening to all kinds of music. Artistes he cites as his main musical influences include Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Osibisa, Freshlyground, Timbaland, Mary Mary and Kirk Franklin.
A member of the Skillions Records production posse, Paapa comes across as a young man keen to portray fresh clean lyrics and God-inspired themes. Be it hip-hop, funk, soul, or high-life, Paapa, a devout Christian, steeps a message of God, hope and love in his works.
Jazz-oriented singer Sandra Huson and the Faint Medal band will be featuring at the concert.
3rd Channel Direct, Skillions Records, Accra (dot) Alt and 6Miludomedia are presenting the concert with support from Institut Français (Ghana) and Alliance Française (Accra).
