West Hills Mall searches for music talents
An exhilarating come-back performance by evictee voice talent, Mercy ‘Crown’ Abdulahi drew the curtains down on two rounds of auditions for the first phase of the Voice of West Hills Mall campaign last weekend.
Twenty out of 100 amateur music talents have now earned slots for the semi-final phase of the campaign, which takes place on Saturday, June 25 at the forecourt of the West Hills Mall.
Evicted early in her first appearance by the judges, ‘Crown’, a solo singer, got a rare second chance when she was called up among four other evictees to compete for the last remaining slot for the semi –final round.
After impressive acts by three rap and hip-life wannabes, the usually raucous audience in the auditorium went dead quiet as a calm, blasé Mercy Abdulahi mounted the stage and rang out what sounded like a self-made fusion of R&B and gospel.
She surprised everybody, including judges Samini, Okyeame Kwame and Feli Nuna, when she signed off her act rather defiantly in a natty rap fashion.
The ‘Voice of West Hills Mall’ campaign is designed to unearth young music talents and also build affinity with young shoppers who, mall managers believe, would eventually become the core patrons of the centre.
The competition started on Saturday, June 11 with 100 participants who earned their qualification by shopping to a minimum total of GH¢100 at the West Hills Mall and two rounds of auditioning have produced 20 promising music talents for the semi-final.
Ten voices will qualify for selection into the final hunt for the Voice of West Hills Mall on July 2.
At stake are GH¢ 5,000 cash prize with shopping vouchers as first prize, GH¢ 3,000 cash and shopping vouchers for the first runner-up and GH¢ 2,000 and vouchers for third place.
