BA contains growing demand on Accra route

In response to the growing demand on the Accra-London route, British Airways (BA) has introduced the Boeing 747, making it the largest commercial passenger aircraft operating out of Ghana.

The coming of the new aircraft means BA has increased its capacity, offering 1,000 more passenger seats every week on the Accra/London/Accra route.

 “We’ve seen demand grow over the last six months and now, we’re introducing the 747,” the Country Commercial Manager of BA, Mr Moran Birger, said.

He said the new aircraft would also enable the airline, which has been operating in Ghana for more than 75 years, to offer its customers more choice, convenience and take advantage of BA’s great network across the world.

British Airways started operating flights in Ghana in 1937, initially with once-a-week flights between Ghana and UK.

In October last year, British Airways increased its operation to 10 flights a week, with both morning and evening departures.

The new 747 offers four cabins- the luxurious First class; the Club World cabin; the World Traveller Plus cabin (its premium economy cabin) and the World Traveller, its economy class.

“Again on the 747, what’s fantastic is that you get two exclusive Club World cabins. One is upstairs, which is very quiet and then you get the downstairs as well,” Mr Birger said. 

About three years ago, the British flag carrier started a GB£5 billion worth of investment in its entire value chain from ground handling to lounges, food and onboard services.
