One-day swimming championship opens at Legon

The Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) has set an August 11 date for the national swimming championship to be held at the University of Ghana swimming pool.

This was made known by Mr William Kyei, the General Secretary of the GSA, who said the event would unearth talents, raise awareness of competitive swimming as well as serve as a justifier to select swimmers for the 11th African Swimming Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.

Announcing this on the fringes of a swimming coaches course in Accra yesterday, Mr Kyei also said the competition was set to witness a host of swimming sensations categorised from Under-12 through to Under-17. They will engage each other in backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly stroke in both male and female divisions.

Participants would have to register at the swimming association’s secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Tesano Sports Club or the University of Ghana Swimming Pool club to be allowed to compete.
