NSC seeks private partnership

The National Sports College (NSC) at Winneba is courting the private sector in Ghana and abroad through the public-private partnership policy to develop its facilities and capacities.

The  college has been working closely with the Public Investment Division of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to engage local and international developers, as well as investors, to build multi-purpose facilities, hostels, synthetic pitches, swimming pools, fitness and boxing gyms, among many others.

The NSC, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports,  the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the World Bank, has mounted a search for a transaction advisor for feasibility studies and project development.

The director of the college, Joe Kpenge, who disclosed this to Daily Graphic, said the college was also in the process of forging collaboration with some foreign missions to train trainers for the college.

Mr Kpenge further said the college was partnering  other local private sector entities to manage its Division One football club, which provides opportunity for its football academy graduates to ease into professional career.

He said that the initiatives, coupled with management and behavioural reforms being pursued, would certainly transform the National Sports College into a world class centre  in sports in the next few years.

He appealed to the media to support the move by keeping the public interested in the affairs of the college.
