Mahatma powers Sogndal back to elite division
Ghanaian international, Mahatma Otoo, over the weekend returned Sogndal to the Norwegian top flight football after he powered a brace in his side’s 5-2 win over Hoenefoss.
The result sealed qualification for Sogndal with three games to spare and the former Hearts of Oak skipper gave a good account of himself as he was rated as the best performer by the media after the game.
Otoo was on target in the 42nd minute after Babacar Sarr had shot Sogndal into the lead in the 18th minute before Fitim Kastrati drew level for Hoenefoss a minute later.
But Otoo proved too hot to handle when he restored his side’s lead in the 42nd minute and then set up the fourth goal, as well as scoring the fifth goal in the 82nd, to take victory away from Hoenefoss.
His brace took his league goals tally to 11 this season and 16 in all competitions and could add to his tally should he score in the remaining three games.
After the game, the Ghanaian twitted ‘thanks to the staff, technical team, playing body and above all the supporters. It has not been a smooth journey but God has seen us through, even though the league has not ended, today’s massive victory, 5-2, means we have qualified to the top league, congrats to all and thanks be to God on my brace today’
