
Ghana Army, Airforce women win volleyball champs
The Ghana Army men’s volleyball team and Air Force women’s team emerged champions in the annual Silver Star Automobile Volleyball championship held at the Lebanon House in Accra last Saturday.
The event, which was highly patronised, witnessed tremendous fighting spirit from the Army who came back from a set down to overpower their counterparts from Air Force 3-1 (19-25, 28-26, 25-24, 25-19) to lift the trophy, cash prize and the bragging rights.
Earlier, the Airforce women’s team beat their opponents from Immigration 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) in a one-sided encounter which created much excitement among the fans .
The seven-team competition included Immigration, Navy, AirForce and Army. But conspicuously absent were powerhouses Police, Prisons and Fire who failed to honour their financial obligations to the volleyball association.

The CEO of Silver Star, Nouhad Kalmoni who presented the trophy and cash prize to the winners, reiterated his commitment towards the development of volleyball in Ghana.
He also promised to continue sponsoring the Silver Star tournament with the view to generating keen interest in the sport.
The Greater Accra president of the Ghana Volleyball Association, George Tetteh, appealed for state support for volleyball, saying supporting it would create many prospects for the youth.
