Fameyeh swerves Kotoko

Former league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have completed two new signings this week despite being swerved by new sensation, Joel Fameyeh, of Division One side, Asokwa Deportivo.

Kotoko’s plan to sign on the home-based Black Stars hitman fell through after Deportivo opted for a potentially lucrative foreign deal much against Fameyeh’s initial desire to play for the Porcupine Warriors.

The General Manager of Kotoko, Samuel Opoku Nti, who revealed to the Graphic Sports yesterday that but for that last minute switch, the young striker was going to play for Kotoko next season.

Fameyeh made the headlines this week after hitting a brace to secure a 2-1 home win for Coach Maxwell Konadu’s side against their Ivorian counterparts in a CHAN qualifier in Kumasi last Sunday.

The Kotoko boss, however, revealed that the club had concluded deals with former Berekum Chelsea right back, Samuel Kyere and another revelation by name Michael Yeboah from Kumasi-based colts club, Corners Babies.

Unlike Kyere, who has tasted Premiership action before, Yeboah was discovered during a recent recruitment exercise organised in Kumasi by Coach David Duncan.

According to Opoku Nti, the young offensive midfielder stood out during the scouting exercise, informing Coach Duncan’s decision to include him in his plans for next season.

He said Kotoko had tied Yeboah, whom he described as an asset for the club, to a four-year contract due to his great talent.

He further disclosed that the club’s livewire, Ahmed Toure, is due to rejoin Kotoko for pre-season preparations soon after a botched loaned deal to Lebanon.

The Ivorian import is currently on holiday in Abidjan after a recent debut stint with the national team of Burkina Faso.
