Durban wins bid to host 2022 Commonwealth Games

Durban will be the first African city to host the Commonwealth Games after being confirmed as the venue for 2022.

The city on the east coast of South Africa was the only remaining bidder after Edmonton's bid team withdrew in February for financial reasons.

The Games will begin on July 18 - what would have been the 104th birthday of former South African president Nelson Mandela - and finish on July 30.

Kotoko gears up for FA Disciplinary Committee ruling

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and their legal team yesterday set themselves in motion to appeal against the ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to declare them losers of their league game against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium in August 2.

The decision which followed a protest filed by the Phobians against their arch rivals for fielding an unqualified player, Obed Owusu, has seen the Porcupine Warriors dropped to the relegation zone.

Gebrselassie in town for Saturday’s Millennium Marathon

Ethiopian long distance icon, Haile Gebrselassie touched down at the Kotoka International Airport Thursday from Addis Ababa as the special guest of the Millennium Marathon final which takes off at the Independence Square in Accra on Saturday.

The highly decorated Gebrselassie, who was in Accra in March for the launch of the marathon, will be welcomed at the airport by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.
