Kaya Forson gears up for Rio 2016
Kaya Forson and Zaira Forson represented Ghana at FINA's 12th Luxembourg International Swimming Open with strong performances last weekend.
The elder of the two, Kaya, 14, resident in Malaga, Spain, is in her final stretch of three international swimming competitions towards representing Ghana at the Rio Olympics.
New female national record times were set in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyle events, as well as 50m and 200m back crawl, 100m, 200m butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley.
Kaya had several top five and top 10 overall and first places by age group performances in this FINA Approved Rio Qualifying Event that featured 296 athletes representing 49 clubs and 21 countries over two days of competition.
Meanwhile, FINA has written to confirm that Kaya’s Olympic Games eligibility status is currently approved by FINA. Kaya has presented proof of her Ghanaian citizenship, her expired Ghanaian passport, valid travel documents, and does not require a visa to travel to Brazil.
According to Kaya’s father, Mr Andrew Forson, though they were informed just two weeks ago of the Games requirements, Kaya has already submitted her Ghana Passport to the Ghanaian officials for renewal.
