Work towards bigger 2016 victory starts now - Eric Afful

The winner of Tuesday’s by-election in Amenfi West, Eric Afful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he is kicking off his campaign immediately for a bigger victory in next year’s elections.

With a voter population of 62,364 Afful polled 15,809 representing 54.64 per cent out of 30,030 valid votes cast to beat the New Patriotic Party’s Paul Derkyi who polled 13,076 or 43.54 per cent to place second. Abraham Kwadwo Buadee of the Progressive People’s Party got 1,032 or 3.44 per cent while Elvis Adjei of the United Freedom Party came last with 113 ballots or 0.38 per cent.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Afful promised to continue from where the late John Gyetuah left off as a Member of Parliament (MP) who had the interest of his people at heart.

He says he would be always in touch, and sees himself as a servant of the people.

The victory, he said, did not come easy but through the hard work of the people at the constituency level, the executive members of the party, and those he contested in the primaries.

“I must extend my sincere appreciation to His Excellency the President of the Republic, John Drmani Mahana and the Vice-President and everybody who took time off to campaign for me and the overwhelming support for the NDC,” he said.

The focus now, he said, was working hard toward 2016 for the bigger victory in the general election.
