NDC's Yaw Adusei vows to snatch Bantama seat from NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary nominee for Bantama constituency in Kumasi, Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei has declared that the notion that the Ashanti region was the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be broken this year.

Launching his campaign in Kumasi on Sunday, Mr Adusei urged party supporters to vote to give President Mahama another four years same way as they did for previous presidents. 

He said the NDC had gathered intelligence that the opposition intends to intimidate voters not to come out in their numbers to cast their ballot in the Ashanti region but said enough measures were underway to ward off any such threats whether from internal or external.

Contributing, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Yaw Obimpeh said the NDC was reliably informed that the NPP was training a group of young men in neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire to foment trouble during the December 7 general elections.

Mr Obimpeh said the NDC has uncovered the ploy but has decided to keep the details under wraps to be able to crush them in case of any eventuality. 

He therefore urged Ghanaians to remain calm and go about their works in a peaceful manner because this year's elections,  just like the other six, will be peaceful. 

The regional chairman said the elections would be won on the track records of the two main parties and not on 'lies and propaganda.'

He expressed optimism that President John Dramani Mahama's massive infrastructural development across the nation was enough for voters to give him a second chance. 

More than 5,000 party faithful thronged the Bantama Presbyterian School despite an initial downpour to back Mr Adusei, who is also deputy minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing.

Mr Adusei introduced an 11-member team to support prosecute his agenda.

Ecstasy filled the atmosphere when the deposed Deputy Minister of Communications, Victoria Hammah made a surprise entry to the ground, perhaps her first after her exit following a leaked tape two years ago.

The pretty lady moved the energised crowd with an 'azonto' dance while urging individual business owners especially traders to sacrifice their day's sales and go and cast their ballots.

She said anything short of this would give the upper hand to the NPP to maintain the seat in parliament. 

From two former Municipal Chief executives, Kojo Bonsu and Afrifa Yamoah Ponkor through to the minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr Kwaku Agyemang Mensah,  all touted the good works of President Mahama and why he should be given a second term.
