Atiwa West Mp funds maternity block
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa West, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has funded a maternity block project for the Akyem-Kwabeng Health Centre to improve maternal and child health in the Atiwa District.
He funded the project from his share of the Health Fund.
The maternity block, which took about 11 months to complete, provides enough space and a more friendly environment to facilitate the normal birth process and give comfort to mothers and their new-born babies.
Inaugurating the GH¢120, 667 maternity block at Akyem-Kwabeng, Mr Amoako-Attah said since becoming a Member of Parliament in 2010, he had channelled about 60 per cent of his resources into projects in the health sector.
Providing access to quality health care, he said, was his top priority and pledged to continue investing heavily in health infrastructure.
CHPS compounds
In addition he mentioned the construction of a number of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to ensure affordable and quality health care to the people.
Mr Amoako-Attah said he would keep faith with his constituents by making sure that resources meant to transform their living conditions were properly applied.
The District Director of Health Services, Mr Tei Djangmah, hailed the project and said it could not have come at a better time as the number of supervised deliveries at the facility kept growing. From about six deliveries in 2010, the health centre was currently recording a monthly average of 22 deliveries.
He advised pregnant women to visit the facility regularly for antenatal care to avoid pregnancy-related complications in order to save their lives and those of their babies.
Mr Djangmah applauded the MP for his tremendous support to health care, citing the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Asaman Tamfoe, Tumfa and Adasewase.
Expansion works
He has additionally funded expansion works at the Enyiresi Government Hospital laboratory and constructed an Out-patient Department (OPD) at the Anyinam Health Centre. Again.
The MP has also made available to the district health directorate five KVA electric generators, 12 double-door fridges, three laptops and two printers to enhance its operations.
The Acting Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Mr Micah Bediako Asare, commended the MP for his intervention, noting that it would go a long way to reduce maternal mortality in the Atiwa District.
He also commended the district health director and his staff for their hard work resulting in the district being declared as the best in health delivery in the region in 2014.
