Upper West records13 fire outbreaks
The Upper West Region (UWR) has recorded a total of 13 fire outbreaks causing an estimated loss of GH¢5,440.00 in property since the beginning of the year.
The UWR Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Kwaku Manu Afful, made this known during a fire prevention and safety education campaign at the Wa Lorry Park and Central Market.
The anti-fire campaign, organised by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), was aimed at educating residents on the need to adopt, practise and adhere to basic fire safety practices.
It was on the theme: "Fire Safety is the Responsibility of All; Let's Embrace It".

ACFO Afful expressed the hope that under the programme which had been lined up, fire outbreak would be reduced by 40 per cent.
He attributed causes of most fires in the market to naked fires used in cooking, unauthorised dumping of refuse at unapproved areas, dumping of hot ashes in containers and general indiscipline among the traders, drivers and travellers towards safety.
ACFO Afful commended the government for providing the region with five new fire tenders.
He thanked the Wa Municipal Assembly for providing them with a fire post at the market and suggested that more would be established at vantage points to facilitate their duties.
