Starbow resumes flight between Accra and Tamale

Starbow, a domestic airline operating in Ghana, has resumed flight between Accra and Tamale.

Flight between the two cities was suspended by the airline for a period of five months. Within the period, the airline acquired a brand-new 78-seater Bombadier Q400 aircraft and made its first trip from Accra to Tamale, after the suspension, last Sunday.

It took less than an hour after take-off at 7:45a.m. for the aircraft to land smoothly and incident-free in Tamale.

The Chief Executive Officer of Starbow, Mr James Eric Antwi, said the acquisition of the Bombadier Q400 could not have come at a better time than this.

He said the aircraft was economical and efficient having very low fuel consumption, making it capable of being flown around the country with little effort.

Mr Antwi promised a more reliable flight service from Starbow. He said the airline had in place contingency plans to fly passengers on another aircraft within the shortest possible time in the event that any of its planes developed a fault.

“In the event that any of our aeroplanes should break down, there is a quick arrangement to fly our valued customers within a short time,” he said.

According to him, the company was in the process of getting another Q400 and was expecting it to arrive in Ghana in July this year. He said the motive to acquire an additional aircraft was to augment the company’s operations in the country.

He assured prospective customers of two daily flights to Tamale.

"The company is also looking at the prospects of starting operations to Wa when the regional airport is completed and as soon as that is ready we will be there," he said.

According to Mr Antwi, the company had received approval to fly into seven countries in the sub-region, including Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Benin. But, he added, the company would have to clean up its operations in the country before venturing into the sub-region.

Passengers who flew on the new aircraft, told the Daily Graphic that they were impressed with the new airplane and encouraged the company to continue with its good work.
