Roads minister inspects ongoing projects in Volta Region
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, last Wednesday led a team to inspect ongoing works on portions of the Eastern corridor road project in the Volta Region. The minister, in the company of officials from the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) and the Department of Urban Roads (DUR), visited the 41-kilometre Golokuati-Vli-Hohoe stretch in the Volta Region.
Ongoing works
Work on a section of the 41-kilometre road, which links the three towns, was progressing steadily.
Alhaji Fuseini said the first phase of a 10km stretch from Golokuati to Vli was almost complete with the second and final phases expected to commence soon.
He said the NDC government had evidence to show that it had completed most of the works on the Eastern corridor road project.
“What President Mahama said during the State of the Nation address was based on the evidence on the ground. Most of the work under the Eastern corridor road project was in progress and would be completed soon,” the minister assured.
Concerns
Some residents of Hohoe, however, expressed concern about delay of work on a section of the Hohoe town roads which they claimed had been abandoned by the contractor.
A resident, Mr Eric Bokpe, said he was unhappy with the situation and therefore appealed to the minister to re-award the contract to ensure its early completion.
Background
Alhaji Fuseini’s decision to undertake the inspection was necessitated by the comment from the Hohoe chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Peter Amewu.
The chairman had earlier asserted that the government had not carried out any road project in the region.
Mr Amewu, who is a former MCE for Hohoe, was quoted to have said that most of the road network in the region was constructed under the NPP administration.
