Practice of Dermatology: Rabito clinic's 40-year-story

Since its establishment in 1974, Rabito Clinic, a renowned dermatology and general healthcare provider, has provided high quality healthcare services to meet the needs of patients, making the facility a leading private healthcare provider in skincare and related diseases.

The facility, which started in Accra, currently has 16 branches in the 10 regions of the country.

Anniversary launch 

Interacting with journalists at the press launch of the 40th anniversary of the Rabito Clinic in Accra recently, the Chief Physician and Consultant Dermatologist, Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle, announced that a specialised university college to offer graduate and undergraduate programmes in skin, hair and nail care would soon be established by the Rabito Clinic in Accra.

He said the initiative was in connection with the clinic’s commitment to produce well-trained and dedicated medical staff to provide quality healthcare for people, stressing that operating such a college had become necessary because more needed to be done in the area of dermatology to enable more medical doctors to access the programme and cater for the needs of patients.

Registration process 

According to him, the registration process had been finalised and was awaiting accreditation from the NAB to fully implement the project. 

“This will help expose the study of dermatology among medical students and ignite a fresh desire for specialisation in the field of dermatology by up and coming medical practitioners,” he said. 

Prof Delle advised cosmetologists and beauticians to seek guidance and education from dermatologists on chemicals and other products they used on their clients.

He said most of the creams used by cosmetologists and beauticians contained strong chemicals such as mercury and lead which were harmful to the skin and the kidney.

“Bleaching substances damage the skin and cancer of the skin is the consequence,” he said, and called for the incorporation of traditional products in the treatment of skin diseases.

Anniversary activities 

To mark the anniversary, which is on the theme: “40 years of quality and affordable health care in Ghana”, a blood donation exercise, free skin screening, clean-up exercises, a health walk and outreach programmes will be held during the year.

It will be climaxed with an awards night and a thanksgiving service at the Christ the King Hall in Accra.
