Police seize live cartridges in Kumasi
The police in Kumasi have seized 130 live cartridges from two young men at Buokrom, a suburb of Kumasi.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yusif Tanko, the cartridges were seized following a search conducted on the premises of the suspects.
The search on the two suspects – David Apaya, 20, and Issaka Awuni, 19 – followed their earlier arrest for allegedly snatching a motorbike from its rider at gunpoint.
Briefing the Daily Graphic on the incident, Mr Tanko said the 130 live cartridges were seized following a search conducted on an abandoned premises at Buokrom which the suspects were using as their abode.
He explained that following the arrest of the suspects for stealing the motorbike, it became necessary for the police to search their premises as part of their investigations.
He said it was during the search that the police found the live cartridges carefully concealed in a ladies’ handbag in their room.
He said the two were currently in police custody to assist in further investigations.
He said the stolen motorbike had also been retrieved from the suspects.
