Police arrest driver with contraband items
A daring driver of an abandoned mini-bus carrying 3,840 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, Albert Sandjie Senyo, was determined not to lose the contraband items.
So, when the police towed the vehicle away from Sokode-Lokoe, near Ho, to the Volta Regional Headquarters in Ho, he followed up and surreptitiously drove it away.
The police, however, acted on a tip-off and chased the fleeing vehicle and caught up with it at the Ho Residency Road and arrested the driver.
The parcels, which were concealed in two sacks, were still intact on board the vehicle, GT 5510 -12, at the time of the arrest last week Wednesday at about 9 p.m.
During interrogation, he told investigators that he was contracted to transport the items from Dzemeni in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region to Aflao by a man whose name he only gave as Dodzie.
He said the vehicle broke down at Sokode-Lokoe in the process.
The vehicle has been impounded and the parcels were due to be sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
Senyo is now being processed for the Ho Circuit Court for possessing narcotic substances without lawful authority.
