Mahama: “We refuse to surrender to stagnation and decline”

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that Ghana has long been plagued by short-term economic decision-making, prioritising political expediency over long-term stability.

“We refuse to accept this as Ghana’s reality. We reject the notion that economic hardship must be our norm. We refuse to surrender to the forces of stagnation and decline,” he declared.

Speaking at the 2025 National Economic Dialogue in Accra today, March 3, he emphasised that Ghana should be a beacon of progress on the African continent—not only a model of democracy but also a symbol of economic prosperity.

He stressed that the forum must be a turning point where Ghana shifts from diagnosing problems to implementing pragmatic solutions for sustainable growth.

“I am committed to ensuring that the lessons learned from this crisis will shape the decisions we make in the years ahead,” he added.

The President stressed that past mistakes must not define Ghana’s future, vowing to steer the nation towards prosperity.
