Goasohene releases land for development projects
The Omanhene of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosompra, has released parcels of land totalling 320 acres free of charge for various development projects in the region.
Two hundred acres will be used to construct offices and residential accommodation for the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), 30 acres for a new regional hospital, another 30 for an affordable housing project; and 25 acres for a sports stadium.
Twenty acres will be used for the regional police headquarters, 10 for the offices of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and five for the Regional Police Headquarters.
Nana Bosompra made this known in an interview with the Daily Graphic after the Minister of State at the Ministry of Works and Housing, Dr Freda Prempeh, paid a courtesy call on him to solicit for land for the affordable housing projects.
On February 13, 2019, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the Constitutional Instrument on the creation of the six new regions when he hosted delegations of chiefs from the new regions.
The regions are Ahafo, Western North, Bono East, Bono, Savannah, North East and Oti .
Accelerated development
Nana Bosompra said Goaso, which was the capital of Ahafo, needed accelerated development to befit its status.
He said although the government was determined to do its part, the support of the chiefs was crucial in arriving at the expected development, adding that it was for that reason he decided to give out the land for the projects.
Nana Bosompra expressed the hope that the government would make full use of the land for the benefit of Goaso and Ahafo in general.
“It is my determination to see to the best for Ahafo’s development. I want to leave a legacy that will live on for years to come,” the Omanhene said.
Timely
At the meeting with the minister, the Omanhene praised her for the good work that she was doing and for the humility with which she worked.
He described the project as timely since it was going to help ease the pressure on housing in the new region.
Land banks
Explaining the scope of the project, Dr Prempeh said it would provide about 2,500 units of houses, some of which would be given out for rent to own, while some would go for outright sale.
She said the ministry intended to ease pressure on housing, especially in the newly created regions, stressing that the ministry was currently acquiring land banks across the country for the projects.
Dr Prempeh expressed gratitude to Nana Bosompra for donating land for such a big project.
The minister indicated that the government would collaborate with the private sector to ensure the successful completion of the project.
She added that local content in terms of materials, technology and personnel would be employed in undertaking the project.
Dr Prempeh was accompanied by a team from the housing directorate of the ministry, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr George Boakye, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Osei Boahen.
