
Fire destroys equipment at NEDCo warehouse in Tamale
A fire outbreak at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) sub-station warehouse in Tamale, last Sunday has destroyed key electrical equipment.
The items destroyed included transformers, high-tension cables and meters.
It took the timely intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from preventing it the inferno from massive destruction to the infrastructure and spreading to other facilities.
The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Command of GNFS, Baba Hudu, who confirmed the incident said the firefighters received a distress call at about 2:23 p.m. and responded swiftly.

He said preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was triggered by the explosion of a transformer.
However, he said the firefighters were able to salvage a significant portion of the warehouse’s equipment, including transformers, meters, and high-tension cables.
"We initially dispatched two fire tenders but due to the severity of the fire, they were insufficient.
“We had to request additional water supply from the water company to fully extinguish it," Mr Hudu added.
Assurance
Reacting to the incident, the Corporate Communications Director of NEDCo, Maxwell Kotoka, gave the assurance that the incident would not disrupt power supply in the area.
He explained that the fire was confined to a warehouse used for storing some equipment, adding, "While the warehouse itself has lost power, we are working to restore the situation as soon as possible."
