Asantehene introduces new Asantehemaa
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, last Saturday publicly named Nana Konadu Yiadom III as the successor to the late Queenmother of Asanteman, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
Nana Konadu Yiadom is the elder sister of Otumfuo Osei Tutu and daughter of Nana Serwaa Ampem, who passed away on November 15, 2016, after reigning for 39 years as Asantehemaa.
Wearing a white cloth, with a desinkran head style to match, Nana Konadu Yiadom sat on the left of the Asantehene at the forecourt of the Manhyia Museum where she was presented to the public.
The event, which coincided with the birthday of the Asantehene, was also used to inaugurate a renovated ceremonial park named after the late Queenmother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
Otumfuo
Otumfuo Osei Tutu explained that Nana Konadu Yiadom was selected based on age-old Asante customs and traditions which demanded that the eldest and the most suitable person should be selected as the Asantehemaa.
He invoked the spirit of their late mother to fill her successor with her spirit and qualities and assist and guide her to also be a great mother to Asanteman.
He lauded the late Queenmother for her excellent and exemplary role as the Asantehemaa for 39 years and said he and Asanteman would continue to honour her memory and name.
The occasion attracted queenmothers from across the country, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah; his deputy, Madam Elizabeth Agyeman, and the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Ken Yeboah.
