Finance Minister assures salaries for unpaid pharmacists in 2025 Budget

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured that the government will address the concerns of over 300 pharmacists who have gone unpaid since their employment by the state.

Presenting the 2025 Budget Statement on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Dr Forson acknowledged the issue, stating that it was brought to his attention during a pre-budget consultation with the youth on social media.

He informed Parliament that his ministry would take immediate steps to resolve the matter and ensure that the affected pharmacists receive their overdue salaries.

"During my engagement with the youth, it was revealed that 321 pharmacists who were employed since June 2023 have not received their salaries. We will take urgent steps to remedy this situation immediately," he stated.

The assurance forms part of the government’s broader commitment to improving conditions for health sector workers, many of whom have expressed concerns over delayed salaries and financial hardships.

Dr Forson further highlighted the importance of engaging with the youth on economic policies, noting that such discussions offer valuable insights into the real challenges facing Ghanaians.

"This conversation was an eye-opening experience, one that strengthened my belief that the voices of the youth matter in designing policies that directly and indirectly impact their lives and future," he added.
