Morning Star students visit Graphic

Pupils of The Morning Star School Limited have visited the head office of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) in Accra.
The visit, which was a 30-minute drive from the school was to enable the students to familiarise themselves with the processes involved in the publication of the newspapers of the GCGL.

The pupils were welcomed by Ms Joy Anthony Preston who briefed them about the history and activities of the company.
She said the company was founded in 1950 by British investors, but was later nationalised by the government of Ghana.

‘Today, the Graphic Communications Group Limited boasts of a wide network of groups working together to offer the Ghanaian populace reliable information,’ she said.

Currently, the company publishes Daily Graphic, The Mirror, Junior Graphic, Graphic Showbiz, Graphic Business and Graphic Sports newspapers to inform, educate and entertain readers.

The visit gave the pupils the opportunity to see the state-of-the-art printing press, the KBA Comet, which is also the only one in West Africa and one of four in Africa.

The pupils were briefed about the complex processes involved in printing the newspapers by Mr Benjamin Amoako Yeboah, a printer.
One of the places the pupils also visited as part of the excursion was the office of the Junior Graphic.

‘We found the experience very exciting, educative and enlightening which showed us the value of the much overlooked newspaper industry in Ghana,’ remarked the pupils after the tour.

The writers are both pupils of the The Morning Star School Limited, Cantonments, Accra.
