Stormzy, Davido, make list of Barack Obama favourite music of 2023
British rapper, singer and songwriter of Ghanaian roots, Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., known professionally as Stormzy made it to Barack Obama’s list of favourite music in 2023.
The former president of the United States of America shared his list of favourite songs of the year on his official Instagram on Friday, and it was pretty eclectic.
Apart from global music icons such as Beyonce’, Megan Thee Stallion, Nigeria’s Davido, Burna Boy, Asake and Tems equally represented. And of course, Stormzy’s popular tune, “Toxic Trait” made the list.
The list included Davido’s “Unavailable” ft, Musa Keys, “Amapioano” by Asake & Olamide. Burna Boy’s “Sitting on top of the World” and “Me&U” by Tems.
It also had “On My Mama” by Victoria Monét, “Crazy Love” by Rita Wilson and Keith Urban, “Water” by Tyla and “La Bebé (Remix)” by Yng Lvcas & Peso Pluma.
There was also “Cobra” by Megan Thee Stallion, “The Returner” by Allison Russell, and Zach Bryan’s “I Remember Everything” featuring Kacey Musgraves and more.
Ironically (or not), Obama also included Beyoncé’s “America Has A Problem” which features rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Oscar-winner Jon Batiste also made Barack Obama’s list, with his song “It Never Went Away.”
In a nod to any potential glaring omissions, in the caption to the list, Obama wrote, “Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out.”
It’s become an annual tradition for Barack Obama to share his favorite books, movies and music of the year. He also does seasonal picks, like his summer playlists.
